Commissions

Frequently working to commission, David's practice embraces the challenges and pleasures of creating one-of-a-kind pieces that are often personal, sentimental, and humorous. Recently completed requests include painting  a beloved (deceased) dog's head on the body of an equally dear departed family patriarch, and battleships steaming out of Rosyth for the Battle of Jutland in 1916.

One  of his most challenging commissions so far: a Royal Navy warship that sank in the eighteenth century. There are no surviving paintings of her when she was still above the waves. Instead, David is working from plans, hull models, and similar English and Dutch paintings of the period.
